What is Children’s (Pediatric) Dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry is dedicated to the dental treatment, and education of children from their birth through adolescence.
How is Harvest Dental Different in Treating Children?
We love seeing children at Harvest Dental, they bring an uninhibited curiosity and outlook that we often lose as we become adults. Knowing this, we strive to make every appointment an opportunity to build a positive dental experience. We will always take our time with your child. We will use kid-friendly terms to help them understand what is going on. Drs. Horsley and Walker will never proceed with treatment unless your child says it’s ok and we will never force treatment, or restrain your child against their will. Our goal is to give your child an experience that will make them want to come back! We will do our best to make each visit fun and educational, and to help your child achieve a healthy and happy smile!
Why should I take my six month old to the dentist?
It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that a dental visit should occur within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by a child’s first birthday. This first visit is important in establishing a dental home where a trusting relationship between your child and the doctor can start. From there, it’s important to start bi-yearly dental visits.
Children who have been going to the dentist since infancy will most likely be less afraid and will have been taught and hopefully have pick up good oral hygiene habits. Early detection of cavities and bad habits is paramount in maintaining good oral health, so we will give parents tools and information on preventative home care such as brushing, flossing, and using fluoride. We will educate you on what foods and drinks to avoid due to their tendency to cause cavities. We will provide information on finger, thumb, and pacifier habits. So, as you can see, these early visits are very important, and we invite you to call 469-812-7100 to arrange your visit to our practice. We look forward to seeing your child soon for pediatric dental care in Farmersville and Van Alstyne, Texas.
